Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has asked bantamweight veteran Eddie Wineland to lace 'em up against Brazilian submission ace Johnny Eduardo as part of the promotion's upcoming "Fight Night" event at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 10, 2014.
UFC announced the 135-pound pairing on Twitter earlier today.
Wineland (21-9) was put out to pasture by reigning bantamweight champion Renan Barao back in September; however, he did what all warriors do and came back stronger, beating the brakes off Yves Jabouin at the UFC on FOX 10 event just last month in Sacramento.
But the competition isn't getting any easier.
Eduardo (26-9) saw his 11-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of Raphael Assuncao way back in late 2011. The Brazilian followed that up with a unanimous decision win over Jeff Curran the following May, but has been out of action ever since.
Will cage rust be a factor?
The upcoming "Fight Night" event in "The Queen City" does not have a main event (yet), but has already penciled in a half dozen fights including Ed Herman vs. Rafael Natal and Manny Gamburyan vs. Nik Lentz. Stay tuned for future fight announcements as they become available.
