Although the least interesting bout of the main card on tonight's (Sat., Feb. 22, 2014) UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann" pay-per-view (PPV) event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, veteran Mike Pyle looked to get back on the winning track against an opponent 13 years his junior, TJ Waldburger.
That's exactly what he did.
Pyle, ever the wily vet, tripped and shot his way to a couple takedowns in the opening frame. Waldburger, with all his youth and vigor, didn't allow much offense outside of that.
That changed in the second when Pyle, with his glorious mullet, started landing leg kicks and scored a knockdown early with a nice knee. He spent some time on top of his foe after but failed to do much of anything with it. In fact, he had to avoid an admittedly lame submission attempt.
Waldburger found some early success in the third but Pyle thrilled us all by landing a slick spinning back fist that had TJ on Queer Street. Waldburger found himself hurt a couple more times after rushing in to avoid getting knocked out. He ended up getting beat on and taking severe punishment, though Herb Dean let him continue for a lot longer than he probably should have.
Still, the stoppage came with roughly one minute left in the final round.
