Two spectators stabbed at UFC 169 event on Feb. 1 inside Prudential Center in Newark, NJ

Whoever was charged with event security is going to have some explaining to do.

Well, I guess those metal detectors and turnstile pat-downs just weren't good enough.

Two mixed martial arts (MMA) fans were stabbed in the stands inside the Prudential Center, during the UFC 169: "Barao vs. Faber 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event, which took place last Saturday night (Feb. 1, 2014) in Newark, New Jersey.

NJ.com has the details:

They suffered non-life threatening injuries after they were stabbed in the stands just before 8 p.m., according to Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio and were treated at University Hospital.

Security officers recovered the knife used in the attack and arrested Angel Pereira, 36, of Lancaster, Pa., who is charged with several counts of aggravated assault and two weapons offenses, according to DeMaio.

Gotta be careful out there, fight fans.

Fan scuffles are nothing new at UFC shows (see a sample here) or at any sporting event, for that matter. Anyone who has been to a Dallas Cowboys game when the play the Philadelphia Eagles knows that you're likely to witness at least half a dozen brawls before the opening kickoff.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

UFC 169 featured a bantamweight title fight that saw Renan Barao retain his 135-pound strap against perennial contender Urijah Faber (highlights), while Jose Aldo held on to his featherweight belt by turning away 145-pound "Bully" Ricardo Lamas.

It was a record-setting event (for all the wrong reasons).
