It doesn't get much more violent than this.
Last night (Sat., Feb. 1, 2014), Abel Trujillo was up to his neck in dangerous situations thanks to Jamie Varner, who helped "Killa" kickoff the UFC 169 pay-per-view (PPV) event last night from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. If he wasn't thwarting submission attempts, Trujillo was managing to remain upright despite repeated head blows.
Indeed, the Blackzilians-trained Lightweight never backed down, firing back -- often blindly -- in ridiculous stand up exchanges that had ringside announcers, Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg, actually giggling into their microphones. Varner began to get the better of the wild encounter in round two and began to recklessly hunt down a hurt Trujillo for the finish.
Terrible idea.
Trujillo winged a hellish right cross that caught an exhausted Varner flush on the jaw. The momentum of the strike sent him spinning, face-first, into the canvas out cold. In the blink of an eye, the brawl was over, with Trujillo celebrating his most memorable -- and dramatic -- mixed martial arts (MMA) match to date.
One that ultimately earned him an extra $125,000 in bonus money for the "Fight of the Night" and "Knockout of the Night."
Sweet Jesus.
