The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB) today issued its list of injuries and medical suspensions for UFC 169: "Barao vs. Faber 2," which took place last Saturday night (Feb. 1, 2014) from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
With several of the bouts ending early (and violently), there were quite a few fighters who were flagged for follow up visits to their doctors. Chief among them is Jamie Varner, who went out on his shield against Abel Trujillo in the opening fight of the pay-per-view (PPV) event (recap).
"C-4" is suspended indefinitely pending a neurological exam.
Also getting sat until further notice is Tom Watson, who banged up a couple of extremities in his loss to Nick Catone, as well as Al Iaquinta, who must follow up with an orthopedic doctor to have his right knee evaluated in the wake of his unanimous decision win over Kevin Lee.
That's not all.
Here is the complete list of UFC 169 injuries and medical suspensions:
Jamie Varner: Suspended indefinitely pending neurological evaluation and CT scan. Minimum suspension 30 days for knockout loss.
John Makdessi: Suspended 60 days for facial lacerations.
Tom Watson: Suspended indefinitely pending orthopedic clearance of right elbow and right foot.
Nick Catone: Suspended indefinitely pending orthopedic clearance of left knee.
Kevin Lee: Suspended indefinitely pending ophthalmologist clearance and CT scan of facial bones.
Al Iaquinta: Suspended indefinitely pending orthopedic clearance of right knee. Minimum suspension 30 days for left lateral brow laceration.
Rashid Magomedov: Suspended indefinitely pending X-ray of left foot.
Tony Martin: Suspended indefinitely pending MRI of left knee.
Neil Magny: Suspended indefinitely pending X-ray of skull and sinus. Minimum suspension 30 days with no contact for precautionary reasons.
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
