It may have taken him five rounds the first time but Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao needed less than one to defeat Urijah Faber for the second time tonight (Sat., Feb. 1, 2014) in the main event of UFC 169 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, to retain his title. It didn't come without some controversy, though, as referee Herb Dean has come under fire for an early stoppage. Barao, who had knocked Faber down multiple times, was in the midst of an all out assault of punches when Dean called for "The California Kid" to do something to let him know he was okay. The American chose to give a thumbs up, one the ref failed to witness, and Dean called it shortly after. Outrage from the audience soon followed but the reality of the situation is Barao was utterly dominating the contest up to the stoppage. Would things have been different if Faber had more time? We'll never know. For everything you need to know on "Barao vs. Faber 2" click here, and for complete UFC 169 results and blow-by-blow coverage of all the night's action click here.
