UFC 169 results: Clint Hester credits Joe Rogan's commentary for win over Andy Enz in Newark

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

After his victory over Andy Enz at UFC 169 on Saturday night (Feb. 1, 2014) in Newark, NJ, Hester spoke to MMAmania.com about being disappointed for not getting the finish, and using some advice from Joe Rogan after hearing the UFC announcers commentary during the fight.

Clint Hester improved to 3-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Andy Enz at UFC 169 (results here). The former contestant of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 improves to 3-0 inside the Octagon with the victory. Hester landed some big punches during the fight, but he wasn't able to close the deal and get a finish, something that he isn't happy with.

"I'm always disappointed when I don't get the finish," Hester told MMAmania.com after the fight. "It makes it a harder fight. I'd like to go out and get easy work, but I know it's not always going to be easy. I'll just come back and keep working more."

Surprisingly, it's Hester's best skill that he says needs improving, his striking.

"I need to go back and work my hands a little bit more. I've just been working on my wrestling and my grappling so much that it I feel like it took away from my hands a little bit. I'm going to go back and figure out a way to dedicate time to each part of the sport."

Hester credits being a contestant on TUF 17 for giving him the confidence that "he can hang with anybody in the division."

On a funny and interesting note, the middleweight credited Joe Rogan for conserving some of his energy. Not because they've trained together, but because he overheard Rogan's voice during the fight.

"Actually, this time I heard Joe Rogan," Hester said. "He helped me back off and not blow my wad. In the middle of the fight he was like ‘he should back off and not blow his wad.' So I said alright, let me take a step back and open up another window."

As for who may be his next opponent?

"I'm going to be ready for whoever they throw at me. No matter who it is, I'm going to game plan for it, plan hard for it and come out and put on a show."
