Lyoto Machida hoped to earn a middleweight title shot by soundly defeating Gegard Mousasi in the main event of last night's (Sat., Feb. 15, 2014) UFC Fight Night 36: "Machida vs. Mousasi" show from Arena Jaragua in Brazil on Fox Sports 1. That's exactly what he did, scoring a unanimous decision win after a good but not great performance. Really, it was typical "Dragon" work that centered on carefully countering his opponent's offense, exploiting every opening he could find. There were enough through five rounds to award him the decision and his attention can turn to the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort. Or perhaps he should be squaring off with Ronaldo Souza, who won earlier in the evening, in a true number one contender battle. I'll leave that up to you Maniacs to decide, if you're so inclined.
