ONE Fighting Championship announced a marquee signing today with Indonesian Fransino Tirta becoming the latest addition to the featherweight roster of Asia's biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion. The 32 year old has been out of action for a few years, but holds a fearsome 14-0-1 record.
Tirta is probably the best prospect you haven't heard of, as he holds a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt, has professional boxing experience and a background in Sanda and is undoubtedly the best MMA fighter to have ever emerged from the burgeoning Indonesian scene.
The UFC and ONE FC were involved in a tug of war for Tirta's services but in the end he opted to sign with the Singapore-based organization who has already put on two cards in his hometown of Jakarta with the undefeated prospect highly likely to headline the next one.
Although Tirta has not competed in MMA since 2011, he made a successful professional boxing debut last year and is looking forward to testing himself against the featherweights on the ONE FC roster.
"I’m glad that we have come to an agreement, and I can focus on training for my next fight. I cannot wait to fight under the ONE FC banner and show the true quality of Indonesian MMA to the world," he said.
ONE FC: "War of Nations" is set for Stadium Negara in Malaysia on March 14th and will be headlined by a welterweight title bout between Brock Larson and Nobutatsu Suzuki. It is likely Tirta will be making his promotional debut in either June or July.
