UFC Fight Night 39: Rani Yahya vs. Johnny Bedford booked for April 11 in Abu Dhabi

USA TODAY Sports

After a brief stint at featherweight, Yahya drops back down to 135 pounds for another run at the bantamweight belt.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has assembled an interesting bantamweight match-up pitting former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 bantamweight Johnny Bedford against longtime veteran Rani Yahya for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 39 event, scheduled for April 11, 2014 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

MMA Fighting brought word of the match-up earlier today.

Yahya (19-8) returns to the bantamweight division on the heels of a split-decision loss to Tom Niinimaki at the TUF 18 Finale last November. It was just the second loss for the Brazilian at 145 pounds (the first coming to Chad Mendes) and snapped a three-fight winning streak.

No matter.

Bedford (19-10) also saw his three consecutive wins be for naught when Bryan Caraway choked him out at UFC 159. The "Brutal" defeat was his first inside the Octagon, but marked the ninth time in 10 losses that he was upended by way of tap, nap or snap.

Time to work on that sub defense.

UFC Fight Night 39 will be headlined by a heavyweight showdown against hard-hitting grapplers Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Roy Nelson (details), and will likely stream on the promotion's new "Fight Pass" digital network. More fight announcement are expected in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned.
