Tonight's (Sat., Feb. 1, 2014) UFC 169: "Barao vs. Faber 2" pay-per-view (PPV) from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, kicked off with a lightweight battle pitting veteran banger Jamie Varner against the "Killa", Abel Trujillo.
The two came out throwing bombs. And when I say bombs, I mean heavy duty firepower or, as described by color commentator Joe Rogan "these are 'what did you say about my mom' punches."
Those kind of bombs.
They were connecting, too, but both men ate every shot. Then, Trujillo earned a takedown but was reversed into what ended up becoming a North/South choke. Varner worked hard for it for nearly two full minutes but never secured a finish.
It got really good in the second.
Just like they did in the first, both fighters came out straight swinging for the fences. Varner connected clean and rocked Trujillo before the same happened in reverse. Then, Varner got the advantage again.
In the end, the two simply let it fly with wild punches until Trujillo landed a hard right hand clean on the chin that face planted Varner and brought an end to the fight.
That was awesome.
