The bantamweight debut of former featherweight champion Cristiane Justino, which was "on schedule" in recent weeks, has been put on hold until further notice.
That's because "Cyborg" injured her left ankle, suffering a full thickness rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament, and has been forced to withdraw from the main event of Invicta FC 10, scheduled for Dec. 5, 2014, inside the Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas.
Invicta Fighting Championships made the announcement on Saturday.
Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Michelle Waterson will take over as Invicta FC 10 event headliner when she faces Brazilian challenger Herica Tiburcio. "The Karate Hottie" was last seen beating the brakes off Yasuko Tamada in September, while Tiburcio will be making her promotional debut on the strength of a three-fight winning streak.
Justino hasn't competed in mixed martial arts (MMA) since July of 2013 and a potential Ronda Rousey fight seems like a rapidly-fading fantasy that may never come to be.
Oh well.
Tickets for Invicta FC 10, which airs live on UFC Fight Pass, will go on sale on Weds., Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. CT, and additional bouts for "Waterson vs. Tiburcio" are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
