Luke Rockhold looks to erase the memory of his first-round knockout (KO) loss to Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 8 -- or at least try to -- when he challenges Costantinos Philippou at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 35 event on Jan. 15, 2014 in Duluth, Georgia.
It won't be easy, as "Costas" looks to get back on the winning track himself, after having his five-fight win streak and title hopes derailed by Francis Carmont at UFC 165.
"Winning this fight, it gets me back to the top. Everybody will be talking about me again. I can knock out everybody. I'm stronger, I'm faster and my technique is better. Luke Rockhold is a huge name, very fast, good striker, well rounded fighter, always willing to exchange. It wont be an easy fight for me, but I am up to the challenge. I don't care about the fame and the glory, I just like to fight. Yes, he wants to win and he wants to be the champion, and he can do all of these things... after my fight. After he loses to me, then he can do whatever he wants. I'm going to go in, guns blazing and we are going to see who is standing at the end."
Rockhold's loss to "The Phenom" broke his nine-fight win streak dating back to his reign as Strikeforce middleweight champion. And though he'll likely need two or three impressive wins before he can get a chance to rematch Belfort, defeating Philippou will be mighty fine start.
Can he get it done?
Or will Philippou and his blazing guns be enough to get him back into the mix?
