Bellator MMA is sure to be letting out another groan upon hearing the news that former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in the wee hours of Monday morning in Los Angeles, California.
The UFC Hall-of-Famer -- who came out of retirement to fight for Bellator in late 2013 -- has yet to make an appearance on Spike TV. Originally paired off against fellow ZUFFA jetsam Quinton Jackson, "The People's Champion" was forced to withdraw after hurting his neck.
Now his debut has been delayed once again after crashing his 2012 Porsche Panamera into a concrete median, which prompted first responders to administer a breathalyzer, eventually leading to his arrest after Ortiz blew a .12 -- more than .04 the legal limit in California -- according to TMZ.
Probably not a good look for his management company, either, who represents this prominent fighter.
The former "Bad Boy" out of Huntington Beach was subsequently arrested and released on his own recognizance after a long night of partying at the BCS football bash inside the Playboy Mansion, according to the report. Let's just say it hasn't been a good year for the mixed martial arts (MMA) icon.
With his arrest, Ortiz joins a not-so-prestigious club, which also includes UFC fighters Jon Jones and Ross Pearson. "Bones" was bagged and tagged for too many suds back in 2012 while "The Real Deal" blew past the limit just a few weeks prior.
Ortiz is expected back in court in the coming weeks and we'll be sure to bring you all the relevant updates surrounding his arrest -- as well as his future in Bellator -- as they become available.
