Four days into the new year and a fighter has already pulled out of a bout because of injury.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil on February 15, 2014 with UFC Fight Night 36: "Machida vs. Mousassi" on Fox Sports 1. The card is headlined by middleweights Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousassi, who hope to work their way into title contention.
However, one of the biggest stars on the card -- Erick Silva -- is currently without an opponent. Last night (Jan. 4, 2014), Nate Loughran was forced to withdraw from the bout for "unspecified reasons."
With over a month to find an opponent, there is no doubt Silva will remain on the card. But it's becoming a theme for Silva opponents. Siyar Bahadurzada, Mike Swick, and John Hathaway have previously pulled out from bouts with the Brazilian because of injury.
Silva hopes to rebound from a knockout loss to Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 29: "Shields vs. Maia" in Brazil.
