UFC 172 will air on pay-per-view (PPV) and takes place on April 26, 2014 inside Maryland's Baltimore Arena. The card is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight featuring Jon Jones against Glover Teixeira and will also include Jake Ellenberger in a welterweight scrap against former Strikeforce fighter, Tarec Saffiedine.
If that wasn't enough to sell mixed martial arts (MMA) fans already, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials announced earlier this week that Max Holloway will take on Andre Fili in a 145-pound scrap.
This is a fight pitting two promising featherweights against one another.
Holloway (8-3) recently snapped a two-fight losing streak with a knockout of Will Chope at UFC Fight Night 34, the promotion's first ever "Fight Pass" network exclusive. Prior to that win, "Blessed" was outpointed by Dennis Bermudez and Conor McGregor.
Can he make it two straight?
The 23-year-old Fili made his ZUFFA debut against Jeremy Larsen at UFC 166. At 13-1, with 10 of his fights ending before the allotted time, "Touchy" will come into UFC 172 riding a nine-fight winning streak, hoping to get his name into the proverbial mix.
But not if Mr. Holloway can help it.
UFC 172 will feature the return of 205-pound champion Jon Jones, as he attempts to defend his light heavyweight strap against Glover Teixeira. "Bones" was last seen turning away Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165, while Teixeira kept his 29-fight win streak alive by defeating Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28.
