Aljamain Sterling vs. Lucas Martins booked for UFC 170 with Bryan Caraway hurt

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

The injury bug has prolonged Bryan Caraway's return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon. His scheduled opponent, Lucas Martins, will now face undefeated prospect Aljamain Sterling at UFC 170.

UFC 170 is scheduled to go down on Feb. 22, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will be headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Women's bantamweight title (details on entire event here.)

On the preliminary portion of the card, Bryan Caraway had been slated to face Lucas Martins in a men's bantamweight bout. But following an announcement this week by UFC officials that "Kid Lightning" had suffered an unknown injury, that scrap is no more.

Instead, Martins will now face Aljamain Sterling, an undefeated Team Serra-Longo member who has racked up eight victories since his 2011 professional mixed martial arts (MMA) debut.

The 24-year-old prospect has finished four of his eight career victories by submission and will look to stay unbeaten on short notice against "Mineiro."

Martins will come into UFC 170 riding a two-fight winning streak. His last UFC sanctioned bout took place at UFC Fight Night 28 where he submitted Ramiro Hernandez via rear naked choke in jst 70 seconds.

Both men will look to distance themselves from the pack at 135 pounds and make an argument for getting a title shot against either Renan Barao or Urijah Faber before all is said and done.
