NFL takes exception to UFC belt at Super Bowl 'Media Day,' FOX's Jay Glazer has to explain it's not WWE

Well, this is awkward.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is holding its annual "Super Bowl Weekend" mixed martial arts (MMA) event this Saturday night (Feb. 1, 2014) inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey (fight card), less than 24 hours before the Denver Broncos face off against the Seattle Seahawks at the nearby MetLife stadium.

As luck would have it, both NFL and MMA air on the FOX network.

Unfortunately, that's not common knowledge where it counts, which nearly got UFC and its camera crew escorted from the building after some of the players in tomorrow's big game, like Denver Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, were seen parading around the Super Bowl Media Day with ZUFFA hardware in tow.

The Newark Star-Ledger (via NJ.com) reports:

When an NFL official spotted a woman and a camera crew walking around the Prudential Center floor asking some Broncos to pose with the title belt, that wasn't going to fly.

"What is that?" the NFL official asked.

"The UFC title belt," the woman responded. "Want to hold it?"

"We don't want this around here," he said. "This is wrestling stuff, right? Yeah, we don't want that associated with us and this event. This is the NFL."

See the offending "Pot Roast" pic here.

The NFL official, Senior Director of On-Field Operations Dennis Kayser, wanted Team UFC to leave the building (maybe he caught wind of this), but later granted them a stay of execution when FOX Sports reporter and rabid MMA fan, Jay Glazer, convinced him they were legit.

Just don't plan on seeing any more UFC belts on the podium.
