Steve Carl vs. Rousimar Palhares booked for World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 9 on March 29 in Las Vegas

Joe Camporeale-US PRESSWIRE

Haters are going to hate and I'm going to keep doing my thing! #fearless --Steve Carl

World Series of Fighting (WSOF) welterweight champion Steve Carl will make his first title defense against Rousimar Palhares at the upcoming WSOF 9 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which takes place on March 29, 2014 at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The promotion announced the booking earlier today.

Carl (21-3) is a perfect 3-0 under the WSOF banner, ending all three of his contests by way of submission. His most recent, a fourth-round triangle choke against Josh Burkman, was good enough to earn him 170 pounds of gold.

But there are submissions, and then there are heel hooks.

Palhares (15-5) is one of the most dangerous grapplers in all of combat sports. Unfortunately, his talent is usually overshadowed by his insane blood lust, as "Toquinho" has been nailed for several infractions that have resulted in injury.

Including a submission win over Mike Pierce that cost the "sad" Brazilian his job.

Nevertheless, Carl insists he's not afraid of what his recently-signed opponent has to offer and defeating Palhares would be an exclamation point on an already stellar career, one which may put him inside the UFC Octagon in the very near future.

Time will tell.

WSOF 9 will also feature a 135-pound showdown pitting Marlon Moraes against Josh Rettinghouse for the promotion's inaugural bantamweight title.

Stay tuned to for additional fight announcements in the coming weeks.
