UFC on Fox 10 results: Ben Henderson wins split decision over Josh Thomson

USA TODAY Sports

This one has controversy written all over it, and it should.

The main event of tonight's (Sat., Jan. 25, 2014) UFC on Fox 10: "Henderson vs. Thomson" broadcast on network television from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, featured former Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson looking to earn another crack at that crown by taking out rising veteran challenger Josh Thomson.

He failed to do that, even if he won the fight.

That's because he failed to definitively defeat a man who spent the majority of the bout fighting with what he believed to be a broken hand, which severely limited his offensive capabilities. In fact, Thomson was reduced to simply working for takedowns, battling in the clinch, and hoping his control would score him a decision victory by the time the final horn sounded.

Close, but no cigar.

Henderson, for his part, looked flustered throughout much of the five-round, 25-minute affair. He spent most of it fending off Thomson's takedowns or battling out of bad positions only to engage in a meaningless clinch game that he never seemed to get the better of.

Still, the judges awarded him the split decision win on scores of 48-47, 47-48, and 49-46.

Feel free to take this one down, Maniacs. It needs it.
