Anthony Pettis Reacts To Ben Henderson Vs. Josh Thomson … In His 'GSP' Voice

Doesn't sound like Anthony Pettis is too worried about fighting Ben Henderson for a third time after watching "Smooth" squeak by with a split decision over Josh Thomson in the main event of UFC on FOX 10, which took place on Jan. 25, 2014 at United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Henderson vs. Thomson, Round 5

Patience was the name of the game early in the fifth, but Henderson worked a knee to the body that landed with a sickening thud. Thomson ate it like it was his post-fight meal.

The boo birds came out not long after this because Thomson wasn't throwing thanks to his (possibly) broken hand and Henderson, for some reason, wasn't nearly as aggressive as you would imagine considering the story of the first four rounds.

"Bendo" was extremely measured in his attack, actually, and he stayed back at distance content to fire away after bouncing back and forth on the balls of his feet.

Strange.

Thomson stayed back and avoided getting hit, for the most part, until the time was right to shoot in and score yet another takedown. No, he didn't find any more success with it after that, but at least he earned it.

With one minute left, the two were literally locked in a tight embrace, like they were hugging in the cage while switching back and forth against the fence. Despite the hammer shadowing the final 10 secons of the bout, Henderson was hesitant.

And then it ended.

Henderson walked around with his hands up. No one was sure why.

FINAL DECISION: 48-47 Thomson, 48-47 Henderson, and 49-46 Henderson.

Uh, okay.

Henderson vs. Thomson, Round 4

Thomson earned a takedown within the first minute of the round, and he even started punching Henderson with his apparently broken right hand. It may not have been pretty, but surely it was scoring points.

Henderson managed to scoot his legs up while attempting to set up a submission from the bottom, but he wasn't able to do so. Thomson stayed in on him, but "Bendo" got to his feet, reversed, and took Thomson down, landing in guard.

That lasted for all of eight seconds before the two went right back to clinching against the cage.

Joy.

Thomson scored yet another takedown late in the round and and once again took Henderson's back. "Bendo" stood up and while Thomson was riding his back, he pumped up the crowd by waving his arm and asking for noise.

They obliged, but the round ended. Only one more to go!

Henderson vs. Thomson, Round 3

Henderson came out fast and furious in the third, rushing across the cage and opening the striking with a Superman punch. That led to a predictable clinch, only this time Henderson took Thomson's back.

It was then that color commentator Joe Rogan alerted us to the fact that Thomson's told his corner in between rounds that he broke his right hand.

That's probably why he wasn't exchanging punches with Henderson while standing, instead working harder to earn takedowns. "Bendo" was fending them off without issue, however, creating quite the conundrum for "The Punk".

Henderson jumped in a few times and Thomson looked to drag him down, but after teasing a guillotine attempt, "Smooth" simply found his feet and they battled some more.

A body kick from the former UFC champ was enough to put an off balance Thomson down, but Henderson couldn't do anything with it.

On to the "championship" rounds!

Henderson vs. Thomson, Round 2

Henderson came out aggressive to start the second, looking for a flying knee. He couldn't get it, and they rest in the center of the cage.

It wasn't long before we were treated to more clinch work against the fence. There's nothing thrilling about two guys battling for underhooks and avoiding knees while slipping in an occasional punch or two, but MMA is strategic, damn it, and you'll put up with it.

Actually, you won't, because "Big" John McCarthy is the referee and he saw enough of it to separate the two and put them back in the center.

It didn't last for long, as Thomson moved in quick and snagged yet another takedown. And, once again, he took Henderson's back and locked on the body triangle for the second time. And, like last time, Henderson stood up and Thomson slid back to his feet.

Keep 'em fresh.

"Bendo" used a hard body shot to close the distance and clinch against the cage again. The round ended the same way it started.

Henderson vs. Thomson, Round 1

Henderson opened with a thigh punch, if you can believe that. He followed it with a head kick that Thomson shrugged off with a smile and a nod.

Thomson quickly earned a hard takedown -- we're talking a straight up slam -- not long after this. He quickly transitioned to Henderson's back, too, and found a body triangle to completely control positioning.

To his credit, "Smooth" is nearly impossible to submit and he proved difficult once again, even standing up and using the fence to look for an opening to get the 160-pound man riding his back off him.

It worked. Actually, his defense of as much was pitch perfect.

This gave way to a battle along the fence as the two pummeled for underhooks until "Bendo" used a trip to take Thomson down. "The Punk" got back up but in the process, Henderson locked in an arm triangle. He dropped down to his back to complete it, but Thomson defended well.

The round came to a close with Thomson earning yet another big takedown, almost dropping Henderson on his head.
