Royler Gracie, Vinny Magalhaes, Dean Lister ... Khabib Nurmagomedov?
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight contender can't seem to find anyone willing to face him inside the Octagon, so the undefeated mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter is looking elsewhere to keep himself busy during the winter months.
The 25 year-old "Eagle" -- perfect at 21-0 -- today (Jan. 23, 2014) expressed interest in hooking up with the gang at the submission fighting tournament, headlined by Royler Gracie vs. Eddie Bravo 2 and streaming live on pay-per-view (PPV) on March 29 in Los Angeles (preview).
Like @MetamorisPro tournaments. Interesting, have they place for me on next event?— khabib nurmagomedov (@TeamKhabib) January 22, 2014
He wouldn't be the first active UFC fighter to participate in Metamoris.
Hot-and-cold heavyweight Brendan Schaub competed last June, and was so putrid with his performance, it forced Ralek Gracie to revamp the rules to submission only, which means no games of cat-and-mouse while combatants try to skate by on points (details).
And it would be a "put up or shut up" type of move.
That's because Nurmagomedov, a NAGA grappling world champion and two-time combat sambo world champion, ruffled a few feathers at the UFC on FX 7 weigh in event (watch it) when he wore a tee shirt that read, "If sambo was easy, it would be called jiu-jitsu."
Only one way to find out.
