With UFC on FOX 10 going down next Saturday, I thought I’d throw out my two sense and give my picks and predictions.
Benson Henderson vs. Josh Thompson
This is a curious match up just from the point of where both are in there careers. Henderson is coming off of the biggest loss of his career, and will be looking to rebound by knocking off another Top ten lightweight and put himself right back into the Title picture. Thompson on the other hand is coming off the biggest win of his career, a knockout of former Lightweight challenger Nate Diaz. That being said I believe Henderson will do what he does best and simply put, be better in all areas of the fight, but then again anything can happen in the fight game. Look for Henderson to come out as a more refined self and dominate in all aspects.
Henderson Unanimous decision.
Both of these heavyweights are coming off big wins and are looking to break into the upper echelon of the heavyweight division. Gonzaga is one of the better Heavyweight submission fighter the UFC has to offer but is coming off of two first round Ko wins, and has shown much improved striking skills since his return to the UFC. Miocic is not a submission fighter but since we haven’t seen his ground game we have no idea what could happen there, but he is a smart striker who can counter and attack with a wide array of strikes. If he can stay on his feet he should be able to outwork Gonzaga on way to a late stoppage victory.
Miocic 3rd round KO.
Simply put Martins is out of his league this fight, but that doesn't discount his obvious submission skills if the fight hits the mat. Without the skills to do so combined with the knowledge of Cerrone I see Martins being over whelmed early. Cerrone is coming off an extremely impressive submission victory over Evan Dunham in his last outing, that confidence coming into this fight should be seen as he uses his superior stand up skills against Martins.
Cerrone 2nd round (T)KO.
These two lightweight, turned featherweight contenders are at similar parts of their careers and have both seen a nice resurgence in dropping a weight class. Elkins who comes from a wrestling background will most likely look to take this fight to the ground and use what he knows en route to a decision victory. Stephens will try and keep it standing and use his varied striking attack but won’t be able too.
Elkins Unanimous Decision.
