The AFC Championship Game, featuring the New England Patriots battling the Denver Broncos today (Sun., Jan. 19, 2014) at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Colorado, is at halftime.
And after two quarters, the Broncos are out to a 13-3 lead.
Both teams started slow, punting on their opening possessions, before Denver got the scoring kicked off with a 27-yard field goal from Matt Prater after a 10-play, 73-yard drive stalled deep in New England territory. In the second quarter, Peyton Manning found his rhythm and piloted a 15-play, 93-yard drive that finished in the end zone in the form of a 1 yard touchdown toss to former Colts teammate Jacob Tamme.
The Patriots answered back with a 9-play, 51-yard drive of their own but a huge sack on third down forced Stephen Gostkowski to bang in a 47-yard field goal for their only points of the half.
The Broncos showed how quickly they can strike on their next drive, moving the ball 63 yards in just 2:29 to put three more points on the board before the half ended.
