Top-ranked super middleweight Lucian Bute went head-to-head against Jean Pascal during last night's (Jan. 18, 2014) big boxing event on HBO, dubbed "The Super Bowl of Boxing," which took place inside the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
When all was said and done, Pascal cruised to a unanimous decision win on the judges' scorecards, earning 116-112 from Claude Paquette, 117-110 from Pasquale Procopio and 117-111 from Jack Woodburn. Michael Griffin was the referee.
Bute falls to 32-1 while Pascal improves to 29-2-1.
In the co-main event, Mike Perez and Carlos Takam battled to a majority draw. It was a tepid affair and the most action the bout saw came from an accidental headbutt in the first half of the fight, opening up a sizable gash on Perez. They picked up the pace a bit in the later rounds, but it was not enough to establish a clear-cut winner.
Maybe next time.
