An interesting featherweight match-up in the form of Daniel Pineda vs. Robert Whiteford has been booked for the upcoming UFC 171 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on March 15, 2014.
UFC officials announced the pairing on Saturday night.
Pineda (18-10) is looking to bounce back from a unanimous decision defeat to Diego Brandao at the UFC Fight Night 26 event last August. The loss to "DB" moved him to an even 3-3 inside the Octagon, but "The Pit" is just 1-3 in his last four.
This could be do or die.
Whiteford (10-2) dropped his UFC debut when he was upended by Jim Hettes at the UFC Fight Night 30 event across the pond. His second-round submission loss was just the second of his career and the "Dinky Ninja" needs to make a statement if he wants to stay employed.
Lots on the line in "The Lone Star State."
UFC 171 will feature the showdown between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler for the vacant welterweight title that Georges St-Pierre recently vacated in the main event of the evening (see the epic fan-made video teaser trailer here).
In other main card action, fellow 170-pound standouts Carlos Condit and Tyron Woodley, as well as Hector Lombard and Jake Shields, will all come to blows with a potential shot at the winner of "Hendricks vs. Lawler" hanging in the balance.
That's not all.
