The ratings are in for UFC Fight Night 35, which took place on FOX Sports 1 last Wednesday night (Jan. 15, 2014) inside the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia, and featured a 185-pound headliner pitting Luke Rockhold against Costas Philippou (highlights).
Let's just say they were nothing to write home about.
UFC Fight Night 35 pulled 629,000 viewers on the cable television network, according to The Wrestling Observer (via MMA Payout), which is not as low as the UFC Fight Night 28 event last year in Brazil (539,000). But to put things in perspective, last season's debut episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 opened to 762,000 eyeballs.
Speaking of which...
TUF Nations, which debuted immediately following the "Rockhold vs. Philippou" mixed martial arts (MMA) event at 10 p.m. ET, limped home with an average of 371,000 viewers. That's the lowest in the history of the televised franchise, but was likely to be expected.
The combat sports reality show is headlined by Patrick Cote vs. Kyle Noke, both talented veterans, but not the type of marquee names to force a ratings avalanche. It will be interesting to see if episode two shows improvement, in addition to how UFC Fight Night 36 does, considering it has the fly-unfriendly Lyoto Machida vs. Gegard Mousasi as its main event.
