Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will put his 205-pound title up for grabs against division number one contender Glover Teixeira in the main event of the UFC 172 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place inside Maryland's Baltimore Arena on April 26, 2014.
UFC confirmed an initial report from Baltimore Sun earlier today.
Jones has been a bit wishy-washy about his Octagon return following his epic, five-round title fight against Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC 165 main event last September, which led the promotion to make several premature announcements about his next appearance (like this one).
Now that all the finer details have been ironed out, we can get down to mixed martial arts (MMA) business, which will give Teixeira a chance to pull the proverbial sword from the stone. The Brazilian has yet to be defeated in five trips to the Octagon, most recently planishing Ryan Bader in the UFC Fight Night 28 main event last year in Brazil.
The destruction of "Darth" pushed his record to a near-flawless 22-2.
No other bouts have been finalized for UFC 172 at this time; however, you can expect to hear all the latest and greatest news and notes surrounding the upcoming "Jones vs. Teixeira" fight card right here on MMAmania.com just as soon as the become available.
