Glover Teixeira has been tearing ass through the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) light heavyweight division since arriving on the scene and his latest test, against Ryan Bader at tonight's (Wed., Sept. 4, 2013) UFC Fight Night 28 event in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, could result in his earning a title shot.
I don't think anyone is going to want to deny it to him now.
The hard hitting Teixeira found himself in trouble early, pushed up against the fence and fending off a flurry of punches from his opponent. But he stayed composed and poised in the pocket before unloading a counter left hook right cross combination that put "Darth" flat on the mat.
It was only a matter of time before the follow up finished the job.
In the post-fight interview with commentator Jon Anik, Teixeira was asked about challenging for the light heavyweight championship in his next fight. His response:
"To tell you the truth, I wasn't happy with this fight and I was disappointed he knocked me down. I'm going to do more in training camp but I'm telling you this belt is going to be mine. It doesn't matter if it's Jon Jones or Gustafsson, it's going to be mine. I think I was overconfident and this was a good wake up call."
How about that?
