Floyd Mayweather payout: 'Money' to bank guaranteed $41.5 million purse for Canelo Alvarez fight on Showtime

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is so 'money' ... and he so knows it, too, pocketing a monster -- and historic -- payday for his upcoming blockbuster boxing pay-per-view (PPV) match against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Not all nicknames are appropriate, but Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s seems spot on.

After raking in $32 million guaranteed for his fights with Miguel Cotto and Robert Guerrero, "Money" will shatter both astronomical marks for his upcoming boxing bout with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez that will air on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) next Saturday night (Sept. 14, 2013), raking in a guaranteed $41.5 million.

For perspective, the 2002 Oakland Athletics won 103 Major League Baseball (MLB) games with a budget smaller than that.

Unbelievably, this incredible sum doesn't even include his portion of PPV proceeds which, considering the magnitude of this fight, could easily shatter the 2.5 million buy record Mayweather Jr. set against Oscar de la Hoya, with whom he is co-promoting this blockbuster.

In fact, the Forbes.com report speculates that the gross revenue of "Mayweather vs. Canelo," which takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, could exceed $200 million worldwide.

For more perspective, just the $41.5 million alone is almost fifty times what every fighter on UFC on Fox 8 made ... combined.

The payout for Alvarez, WBA and WBC Light Middleweight Champion, has yet to be disclosed and will likely be far less than the undefeated WBA Super Light Middleweight champion; however, considering his status as a national hero in Mexico, odds are good that it, too, will be mind-boggling.

Now the only question is which fighter's fat stack of cash will end up being a consolation prize "Sin City" next weekend.
