The UFC Fight Night 28: "Teixeira vs. Bader" main card on Fox Sports 1 kicked off tonight (Wed., Sept. 4, 2013) from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, with a flyweight battle pitting former Ultimate Fighter competitor Marcos Vinicius against Russian upstart Ali Bagautinov.
The two started slow, keeping distance and avoiding each other's offense. Brazilian crowds are forgiving and always thirsty for combat competition but they'll only take so much. That led to a little action but a clinch soon followed. It appeared as though we would have a stalemate but suddenly Bagautinov exploded out with a big takedown.
It damn near looked like he had him knocked silly. The follow up onslaught certainly seemed like it would finish the job but Vinicius kept his composure, even slipping out of a guillotine attempt to reverse position and end up on his opponents back, where he spent plenty of time before ending the opening frame with a takedown.
Talk about action after such a slow start.
It slowed down in the second, with a relatively even striking round that saw a few takedowns mixed in. Bagautinov was strong, but Vinicius was hanging around.
The third saw the Russian use the fence to neutralize Vinicius and coast to the scorecards. Or at least that seemed to be the plan until he absolutely planted the Brazilian with a vicious right hand down the pipe that put him away.
That's a flyweight knockout, y'all. Impressive.
