Latest UFC rankings/MMA rankings (Light Heavyweight): Gustafsson cements himself as second best in division

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sport

Now that the excitement has subsided in the wake of UFC 165, the SB Nation crew has tallied the votes and come up with the 10 best light heavyweight fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today. Have a look.

What difference a gutsy performance makes!

The light heavyweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has long been considered to be stale as champion Jon Jones has dominated every single opponent placed in front of him and made it look easy in the process.

However, after UFC 165 where Jones met Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of the evening, the entire perception of the division has changed. Unlike past opponents, Gustafsson took the fight to Jones and beat him up along the way. It forced the champ to dig deep within himself to find a way to retain his title.

The bout has been called an instant "classic" and for good reason. It wasn't a sloppy affair with the fighters throwing haymakers. No, this was a skilled contest which showcased phenomenal technique from both individuals.

As a result of the classic bout and Jones looking human, the light heavyweight division was injected with some new life which are reflected in the Official SBNation UFC/MMA Rankings.

1. Jon Jones
2. Alexander Gustafsson
3. Glover Teixeira
4. Rashad Evans
5. Phil Davis
6. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
7. Dan Henderson
8. Chael Sonnen
9. Vitor Belfort
10. Mauricio Rua

Other's receiving votes are Gegard Mousasi with six and Ryan Bader with one.
