Looks like Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight contender and UFC 166 co-headliner Daniel Cormier has an unlikely ally in his war against Roy Nelson's unsightly facial hair.
UFC President Dana White.
The leader of the world's largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion railed against "Big Country's" bushy beard, and wants the "not smart" Nelson to "trim it down" before stepping into the Octagon for his "DC" fight at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on Oct. 19, 2013.
White remonstrates during yesterday's UFC media tour (video):
"I don't want that nasty thing rubbing on my face either if I was in a fight. I hate that whole, 'you can grow a beard down to here and still fight in MMA thing.' You know? It's not even allowed in boxing, and they don't go to the ground and have side control. Who would want that thing laying on their face? Seriously? That long, nasty, ratty looking thing in your mouth, rubbing on your face. It's ridiculous. They shouldn't be allowed to have beards that big. Trim it down and make it look normal. You know? It's disgusting."
So much for the "wow" factor.
Cormier plans to file a formal complaint with the Texas athletic commission prior to their co-main event next month in "The Lone Star State." It would hardly be setting a precedent, as Pat Healy was forced to go high and tight leading up to his most recent scrap in Toronto (results).
Word on the street is that those things can give you herpes.
