Last night (Sept. 21, 2013) at UFC 165, Brendan Schaub locked in a beautiful d'arce choke that put Matt Mitrione to sleep in the center of the Octagon at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada. It was his second win in a row and could be the start of another run towards the top of the heavyweight division.
MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani spoke with Rener Gracie of Gracie Breakdown Fame to get a better understanding of Schaub's submission and why it was so important to finish the fight after his awful appearance at the Metamoris event against "Cyborg" Abreu.
Instead of explaining to Helwani the submission, Gracie decided to lock in the choke and then talk his way through all of the stages. At one point, Helwani was close to going unconscious. That would have been awkward. But the awkward moments didn't stop there! Gracie then explained how a d'arce choke isn't an air choke by putting his hands around Helwani's neck.
It's probably one of the weirdest post-fight videos as there is some legitimate fear in the MMA Fighting journalist's eyes.
