UFC 165 results: Renan Barao knocks out Eddie Wineland

Anne-Marie Sorvin-US PRESSWIRE

Renan Barao knocked Eddie Wineland out in the second round to retain the interim bantamweight championship at tonight's (Sept. 21, 2013) UFC 165 event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The co-main event of tonight's (Sat., Sept. 21, 2013) UFC 165: "Jones vs. Gustafsson" pay-per-view (PPV) event from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, featured a bantamweight (Interim) championship showdown pitting current titleholder Renan Barao against veteran challenger Eddie Wineland.

A win would mean a date with Dominick Cruz, likely early next year.

Well step up to the plate, Mr. Barao.

After the first round, it seemed these two would engage in a competitive back-and-forth fight, one that could go the distance and lead to some wacky judges decision. All that changed when the Brazilian used a spinning back kick to put Wineland on Queer Street.

The follow up onslaught of punches led to a referee stoppage. It was a vicious finish, one fitting of an Interim champion who can't wait to finally fight for the actual title.

Stay tuned for that ... if Cruz ever gets healthy.
