Before Uriah Hall emerged as the clear-cut favorite to take home the new custom Harley-Davidson motorcycle and "six figure contract" awarded to the winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17, there were two other fighters who showed promise on Team Jones.
Now, the two former teammates will square off "down under" in a middleweight match up as Dylan Andrews takes on Clint Hester at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane, Australia. ZUFFA officials announced the new contest yesterday, which takes place on Dec. 7, 2013 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre and will air on FOX Sports 1.
Andrews (17-4) and Hester (8-3) have taken very different routes to reach this point.
The New Zealand-born, "Villain" made his way to the semifinals of TUF before being eliminated from the tournament by the aforementioned Hall -- who went on to lose in the finale to Kelvin Gastelum and most recently via split decision to John Howard.
Andrews made his official Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut at the season's live finale, where he scored a first-round technical knockout win over Jimmy Quinlan. He then built on that momentum with a knockout of Papy Abedi at UFC Fight Night 28: Teixeira vs. Bader.
This added to the Kiwi's six-fight win streak.
Meanwhile, Hester was ousted in the first round of TUF but the entire cast was invited back for an official fight during the finale. He made the most of his chance, scoring a third-round win with a knockout of Bristol Marunde. The 26 year-old Hester was expected to face TUF: Brazil winner Cezar Ferreira at August's UFC 163 event, but was forced to withdraw from the event due to injury.
He now returns to face his former teammate. At the end of the day, which of the three TUF 17 fighters will have the longest UFC career, Andrews, Hester, or Hall?
Time will tell.
