Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez full fight video highlights online from Showtime boxing PPV in Las Vegas

Al Bello

Floyd Mayweather is still the king of the boxing world, even if one judge very nearly screwed that up. Nice try, though, Canelo!

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Canelo Alvarez met inside a boxing ring last night (Sat., Sept. 14, 2013) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a 12-round, 36-minute (Super) Light Middleweight championship showdown contested at a catchweight of 152-pounds.

There were three championship titles on the line in total, but really, the distinction of being the pound-for-pound greatest fighter on planet Earth was at stake. After all, "Money May" was untouchable going into the evening, and Alvarez largely was too.

No longer, at least not as far as Canelo is concerned.

That's because Mayweather spent 12 rounds popping a solid jab, while mixing in a hard right cross or two that would stagger Alvarez and remind him he was in there with the best. Perhaps the best reminder of that was nearly every time Canelo fired off with a flurry.

Because he almost always hit nothing but air, arms, or shoulders. Sometimes the body and once way too low.

In short, it was your typical "Money" performance from the greatest boxer walking the planet today. He was never really in trouble, even during the early rounds when he had to work for win on the cards. He did, and he did.

Perhaps the most amazing part of this fight were the final scores: 114-114, 116-112, and 117-111. Yes, that's a majority decision (see final scorecards here) for Mayweather because judge C.J. Ross, one of the controversial judges from the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley fight, thought it was a draw.

Despite the near injustice, Mayweather is still the king of the boxing world.

Long may he live.
