Aldo Vs. Pettis – 145, 155 or catchweight?

This would be an awesome fight to see and surely a treat for any self-respecting MMA fan. However, should the fight be contested at one of the Champion’s weight classes? Or, should the fight be a non-title affair? Perhaps even a catch weight of 150lbs?

The latter would be my preference. I just wanna see them scrap. If I were Joe Silva, Dana White and company, I would book the match as a catch weight bout at 150lbs.

My reasoning is admittedly selfish. Going from 2 Champions to one is not good for either division, resulting in less Championship fights for the fans. No one wants that. Also, a loss from one Champion to another shouldn't really result in the loss of one’s title. A catch weight bout would eliminate the argument that one of the champions lost their title to the other. Yes, one might have lost the match but, since it wasn't contested at either weight class, an argument for the belt cannot be made.

The closest thing we've had to a "Super-fight" was Edgar Vs. Aldo… but it still wasn't truly Champion Vs. Champion. Assuming Pettis gets past Grant, I’d really like to see this fight happen next. Maybe if belts weren't at risk, each Champion would be more willing to make the fight happen and then go back to defending the strap in their respective divisions.

What do you guys make of this concept? How would you like the fight to go down in terms of repercussions to the title holders?
