Ben Rothwell is back in the win column.
At UFC 164 last night (August 31, 2013) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, heavyweights Brandon Vera and Ben Rothwell took to the Octagon at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The bout marked Vera's return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight division after a forgettable run at light heavyweight.
In what was a pretty forgettable fight, Vera used movement and leg kicks to keep the much larger Rothwell on the outside. Whenever Rothwell would push forward to engage, Vera would circle away out of danger and reset.
The action picked up in the third when Rothwell started to mock Vera's head movement and footwork before closing the distance and landing punches to the face that rocked the Filipino fighter. A knee to the head and follow up punches put Vera down and forced referee Herb Dean to step in and stop the fight.
After the fight Rothwell called out Travis Browne. The loss drops Vera's overall UFC record to 8-7-1. He was cut previously after a loss to Thiago Silva, but was given another shot after Silva tested positive for PEDs.
