Matt Grice vs Jeremy Larsen fight set for UFC 166 in Houston on Oct. 19

USA TODAY Sports

Two Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight fighters -- Matt Grice and Jeremy Larsen -- will open a card that two Heavyweight standouts headline.

Grice (15-5) and Larsen (8-4) will collide at UFC 166: "Velasquez vs. Dos Santos 3," which takes place at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on Oct. 19, 2013, in a 145-pound "Prelims" showdown, according to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Twitter feed.

Grice will look to rebound after dropping an insane split decision battle against Dennis Bermudez at UFC 157 earlier this year (watch it again here ... immediately) that took home "Fight of the Night" honors. "The Real One" was dreadful (1-4) during his first tenure with the promotion from 2007 to 2009 and, since returning, has lost twice. However, one of those defeats was to arguably the division's current No. 1-ranked contender, Ricardo Lamas, while the other was to the aforementioned Bermudez.

His sole victory this time around was against Leonard Garcia at UFC on Fox 3. Regardless, the 32-year-old bought some time his last outing, but he does ultimately need to start winning.

Larsen, meanwhile, has been finished twice in his only two Octagon outings. He will look to utilize his striking and strong cardio to wear out the well-rounded Grice.

UFC 166 is turning out to be a very strong offering, headlined by a Heavyweight championship trilogy match between reigning division kingpin, Cain Velasquez, putting his title on the line against Junior dos Santos in what will be the third meeting between the pair in less than two years.

In the co-featured fights of the night, Roy Nelson returns to the Octagon to throw hands opposite "still Heavyweight but not for long" Daniel Cormier, while Gilbert Melendez and Diego Sanchez are also slated to hook 'em up on the pay-per-view (PPV) main card in a Lightweight bout that could have serious 155-pound title implications.
