André Pederneiras posted the following open letter as a way to respond to the criticism that José Aldo received in the performance against the Korean Zombie, after breaking his foot in the first 2 minutes.
After last night's win, in which our champion José Aldo kept his belt, I've seen a lot of people talking about him loosing his edge. Let see then: "the loss of the UFC's champions greatest weapons". Lets imagine and then you rethink Aldo's fight.
Demetrious Johnson: imagine that he lost the ability to execute a takedown.
Dominick Cruz, that I believe is not the champion: he lost his mobility in the first round and now he have to fight still until the end.
Ben Henderson: Can't execute a takedown and now has to strike until the fifth.
George Saint-Pierre: is also hurt in round one and cannot execute a takedown.
Chris Weidman: also like his peers, can only strike in the next fight against Anderson.
Jon Jones: can't execute a takedown.
Cain Velasquez: is also hurt in the first round and can only strike against Cigano.
Now you tell me if Aldo has fought well or not. Aldo showed that he is game against anyone and in any circumstation.
Aldo, a complete champion.
So what you think? I must admit that when the fight ended I tought the neither of them were any good, but after learning about Aldo breaking his foot, I felt like he adapted very quickly and showed that he has an underrated wrestling game.
Furthermore, I also think that André didn't mean the this champions would automatically loose in the above circumstances (well, maybe Cruz), but that it would be much harder for them to win (well, except Jones).
What you guys thinks? I apologize for any mistakes, but english is not my native language.
