We all know just how much Jose Aldo likes to kick the crap out of his opponents.
In fact, Aldo's powerful kicking game was the focus of an ESPN "Sports Science" segment prior to his main event match against Chan Sung Jung at UFC 163, which took place at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, last night (Sat., Aug. 3, 2013).
Unfortunately for "Scarface," he may just kick too hard for his own good.
Word out of Aldo's camp in the wake of his fourth round technical knockout stoppage of "Korean Zombie" is that he broke his boot just two minutes into the opening frame. And that's the reason he implemented a more wrestling-minded -- and less aggressive -- gameplan throughout the 145-pound showdown (watch highlights here).
The diagnosis from Andre Pederneiras, Aldo's head coach (via MMAFighting.com):
"He broke his foot two minutes into the fight. The first kick he threw landed on (Jung’s) knee.... We are talking to the UFC doctor, Marcio Tannure, but he’ll probably take a medical suspension for the next two or three months. It’s up to the doctors now."
The report indicated that the injury would likely force "Scarface" to the sidelines for the remainder of 2013, which would certainly freeze the division much to the chagrin of top contenders such as Ricardo Lamas and Cub Swanson, among others.
This is not the first time the Brazilian has encountered podiatric problems, injuring his foot in a motorcycle accident that scrapped a fight against Frankie Edgar at UFC 153 back in Oct. 2012.
