You didn't think the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) would return to the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, without bringing with it the first winner of its Ultimate Fighter series did you? Well, they didn't, in the form of a middleweight battle pitting Cezar Ferreira taking on the unheralded Thiago Santos at the UFC 163: "Aldo vs. Korean Zombie" pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sat., Aug. 3, 2013).
The fight started fast and ended just as quickly. Ferreira came out swinging and clipped Santos with a big shot that had him staggered. He was hurt badly enough, in fact, mostly on the strength of a hard overhand left, that he wasn't nearly aware enough to probably fend off the guillotine choke the TUF winner locked in on him.
The tap came almost as fast as the choke itself.
Ferreira may or may not have a real future in the UFC middleweight division but if nothing else, he's creeping on a come up at the right time, what with Anderson Silva having finally showed some signs of slowing down.
Maniacs, what did you think of this one?
