The main card of the UFC 163: "Aldo vs. Korean Zombie" pay-per-view (PPV) from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, tonight (Sat., Aug. 3, 2013) kicked off with a flyweight showdown pitting a heavy John Lineker against Jose Maria Tome in what may have been a potential top contender battle had the former not missed weight by a full four pounds.
Still, the division is lacking credible challengers and surely someone would step up, right?
As is usually the case with the little fellas, the action was fast and furious early. Lineker used his power to intimidate Maria into circling around the cage and keeping his distance. Unfortunately, that meant offering less offense, though he did land heavy and clean with significant offense.
Then, the second.
As was the case late in the first, Lineker had Maria pushed back, in that dreaded position of backing out to the fence. The finish came not long into the round when Maria's knee buckled underneath him and Lineker took advantage with an onslaught of ground-n-pound that got the finish.
Despite his weighty issues, Lineker may now be a top contender at flyweight.
Sound good?
