Condit finishes Kampmann in the fourth round

The first time Carlos Condit met Martin Kampmann inside the Octagon, he was fresh off a killer run in WEC and looking to make a name for himself on a much bigger stage. He lost a close fight, and never forgot about it. Now, over three years later, he got the chance to avenge that defeat in a rematch at tonight's (Wed., Aug. 28, 2013) UFC Fight Night 27 event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Right away, Kampmann pressed the action and tripped Condit while looking for a takedown. He also landed a hard right hand on the way back up.

Then it got crazy.

Condit started unloading, and while Kampmann can absorb a ton of punishment and still continue on, the referee decided a knee that put him down was enough to call the fight.

Condit batters Kampmann in third, takes control

The first time Carlos Condit met Martin Kampmann inside the Octagon, he was fresh off a killer run in WEC and looking to make a name for himself on a much bigger stage. He lost a close fight, and never forgot about it. Now, over three years later, he got the chance to avenge that defeat in a rematch at tonight's (Wed., Aug. 28, 2013) UFC Fight Night 27 event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

With Condit so clearly winning the stand up battle, Kampmann continued to employ his strategy of fighting the war under his own terms. That meant grinding "The Natural Born Killer" down and employing a decidedly Georges St. Pierre-esque tactical approach.

The problem with that is Kampmann is no St. Pierre.

Indeed, Condit escaped once more and started landing punches with more and more frequency. He was doing very real damage too, as "The Hitman's" face started pouring blood. He was considerably slower than early on. It was bad enough that he seemed to be conserving energy, outright running from engaging at times.

Cue Condit's trademark flying knee.

Then, suddenly, the Greg Jackson trained Condit somehow grabbed a rear-naked choke and squeezed. It looked tight, but a slippery Kampmann managed to slide out and get back to his feet.

Still, the damage was done and the tide had turned.

Condit battles back in second, outstriking Kampman

The first time Carlos Condit met Martin Kampmann inside the Octagon, he was fresh off a killer run in WEC and looking to make a name for himself on a much bigger stage. He lost a close fight, and never forgot about it. Now, over three years later, he got the chance to avenge that defeat in a rematch at tonight's (Wed., Aug. 28, 2013) UFC Fight Night 27 event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The second round opened with Condit wary of the next shot and Kampmann content to stay on the outside. There was good reason for that, as "The Natural Born Killer" started pummeling Kampmann with hard punches just as soon as he managed to get inside.

This led to yet another takedown attempt from Kampmann but he didn't have his legs under him nearly enough to complete it.

From there, Kampmann was lured into exchanging punches, something he most certainly didn't want to do. He was losing that battle handily, so he once again looked for the right opening and ducked under for another takedown.

Once again, Condit defended.

The round ended with Condit having established wrested control away after spending most of the first on his back.

Kampmann controls Condit early on

The first time Carlos Condit met Martin Kampmann inside the Octagon, he was fresh off a killer run in WEC and looking to make a name for himself on a much bigger stage. He lost a close fight, and never forgot about it. Now, over three years later, he got the chance to avenge that defeat in a rematch at tonight's (Wed., Aug. 28, 2013) UFC Fight Night 27 event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Round one started with "The Hitman" forgoing any possibility of getting clipped on the feet and straight up shooting in for a takedown immediately. He got it too, though that only made "The Natural Born Killer" search for a quick submission.

One he didn't get.

He continued looking for sweeps and eventually ended up on top, though he had to brave a brief rear-naked choke attempt to get there. The superior position was short lived, as Kampmann got right back to his feet and continued grappling against the fence.

Pummeling for position is so entertaining ... not.

Kampmann did execute another takedown, though Condit managed to get back up from it much quicker than the first. Still, the Dane went right back to wrestling and scored one more takedown before the opening round came to a close.
