The main card of the UFC Fight Night 27: "Condit vs. Kampmann 2" broadcast on Fox Sports 1 tonight (Wed., Aug. 28, 2013) in Indianapolis, Indiana, kicked off with two middleweigh Ultimate Fighter veterans squaring off in Brad Tavares taking on Bubba McDaniel.
Tavares came out throwing leg kicks while McDaniel kept his distance and tried to work from range. He found some early success jumping in with punches but Tavares caught him off balance a time or two and did some damage that way.
The first frame was mostly uneventful, however.
The second round started explosively enough. Tavares landed multiple hard kicks and punches, with one volley staggering Bubba and another straight up knocking him on his keister.
He held the advantage the rest of the way, assaulting McDaniel's body with hard, smacking kicks.
Finally, McDaniel showed signs of life in the third, briefly buckling his foe. But that only led to a clinch and, before long, he was writing on the canvas courtesy of an inside leg kick that rode a little too high and blasted him in his twig and two berries.
He recovered, though, and earned his first takedown of the fight with just a couple minutes remaining in the contest. Considering the first two rounds, this was likely his best chance at working for a finish, one he undoubtedly needed.
It never came.
So, the judges awarded Tavares the fight on scores of 29-28 across the board.
