Chan Sung Jung will have to wait a bit longer than expected to get back into the title hunt after his manager Brian Rhee informed MMAFighting.com that he could be out of action for a up to one full year because of surgery to repair a separated shoulder and broken orbital bone.
The timetable for his return, according to Rhee, is dependent on the rehab process.
In the fourth round, Jung's right shoulder popped out of a place after a missed punch, with the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) contender trying to pop it back into place. Aldo wasted no time in taking advantage by attacking the injury and eventually getting the technical knockout stoppage a few seconds later.
After the bout, it was discovered that Jung had also suffered a broken orbital bone as well as a broken foot. The injury and upcoming layoff comes on the heels of a left shoulder injury, which had kept "Korean Zombie" out of action the previous 15 months.
Aldo himself couldn't escape the title fight unscathed, suffering a broken foot in the opening moments of the championship bout.
Jung received his much-desired title fight against "Scarface" after Anthony Pettis bowed out due to injury and now faces an uphill rehabilitation process before he can see the inside of the Octagon again.
