Tonight (Aug. 18, 2013), World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) invaded Los Angeles, Calif., to hold SummerSlam 2013 at the Staples Center. SummerSlam is considered one of the WWE's biggest pay-per-view (PPV) events of the year, and tonight's was one of the best ever.
It was expected that the match between Daniel Bryan and John Cena would steal the show. After all, Bryan has been on fire lately, putting on great matches with everyone on the roster and Cena always works well with great wrestlers.
But, it was Brock Lesnar and CM Punk who tore the house down.
Billed as "The Beast vs. The Best," the match featured two of the company's top stars. Lesnar's entire offense was built around his power. And jeez did he showcase it. He threw Punk around like a ragdoll and landed some incredibly stiff knees to the midsection. Punk responded with some great offense of his own that resulted in some incredibly close pinfalls.
Paul Heyman made his presence known when he saved Lesnar from defeat by sacrificing his own body.
Whether you're a mixed martial arts (MMA) fan who doesn't want to ever watch pro-wrestling or just someone who missed the show, this is a match to hunt down. It was an absolute classic. A legitimate five-star match.
Wow.
