After seven consecutive five round fights, Frankie Edgar finally got to contest an opponent inside the Octagon for just three rounds spanning 15 minutes when he took on Charles Oliveira in the co-main event of last night's (Sat., July 6, 2013) UFC 162: "Silva vs. Weidman" pay-per-view (PPV) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. And while there was worry he would start slow, and some could argue he did, he certainly picked up the pace late and nearly scored a stoppage victory by the final frame, blitzing his outmatched foe and taking home a rather pedestrian unanimous decision victory. It's not that he wasn't impressive so much as this is what was always expected of him at his new home at 145-pounds. The loss to Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo hurt, yes, but he's now shown that he's still got plenty of gas left in the tank and a solid run over his next couple fights could put him right back into another five-rounder, perhaps in a rematch with Aldo.
