The co-main event of the UFC 162: "Silva vs. Weidman" pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sat., July 6, 2013) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, featured Frankie Edgar hoping to return to the win column for the first time in four fights against submission wizard Charles Oliveira.
Edgar came out quick, working over Oliveira with a big shot and following up with a takedown. He did some damage from on top before they went back to standing, where "Do Bronx" looked to use his length to establish range.
Even if the reach was even and Frankie was the much better boxer.
Frankie started to struggle a bit, even taking enough punishment to bleed from his nose, though that's par for the course with "The Answer."
Into the second and the story remained largely the same. Edgar scored with his usual offense while Oliveira attempted to establish a jab that simply wasn't landing often enough. Edgar also worked a takedown late, a strategy he's used quite a few times before.
Either way, it was close heading into the final round.
From there, it was very clear. Edgar started landing hard punches and after a particularly big shot, he absolutely dominated the remainder of the bout.
The final scores were 30-27, 29-28, and 30-27, all in favor of Edgar.
